Terry Wilkinson
Brisbane born artist Terry Wilkinson has lived in the Redlands for the past 15 years. Her work covers a broad range of subjects, everything interests her. She mainly works in pastels and oils but likes to use other mediums as well.
She joined the Pastel Society of Australia in 1984 and was tutored by Les McDonough who encouraged her to go professional in 1985. In 1988 she was elected a Master Pastellist. Terry attends lots of workshops in a constant quest to learn more and try different techniques.
At age 9 she was privileged to win a scholarship to be tutored by the late Vida Lahey at the old Brisbane Art Gallery at Bowen Hills. Because of this she gets a great deal of pleasure in teaching and passing on ideas to her students. Terry travels frequently to the country to take workshops and also teaches at her home studio.
She spent 1988 studying full time at the Mt Gravatt College of TAFE with Robbie Barnes and received a certificate of Art & Design and Painting.
Her work is held in many private collections in Australia and overseas, also in various galleries.

Artist’s Curriculum Vitae
My inspiration comes from the landscape, wildlife and dramatically changing seasons of the ‘Top End’ of the Northern Territory, where I live with my husband and two dogs on a strip of tropical savannah woodland and seasonal wetland at Humpty Doo, south of Darwin.
Painting the bush on location is my way of expressing my appreciation of it and if I can share this – and even make someone else realise its beauty and value - then I feel my work has been a success. Many of my pastels are ‘intimate’ landscapes which reflect my fascination for the plants and other creatures that live here. Pastel seems to be the best medium for expressing my ideas and for working en outside in the demanding climate of the Top End.
I spent the first part of my life in England, where I painted since early childhood – I still have the remains of my first set of Van Gogh pastels, given to me for my 8th birthday. I spent 8 exciting years in the Solomon Islands, where I held solo exhibitions in Honiara and Port Vila and met my husband. We eventually ended up in Darwin, where I have held a number of solo and group exhibitions. I have enjoyed tuition in pastel and watercolour from many gifted and highly skilled artists – too many to name – but I am grateful to them all. I now tutor the pastel adult evening class at the Casuarina Senior College.
My most recent exhibitions of pastels were ‘A Sense of Place’ in 2008 and ‘Leafscapes and Studies’ in 2009. My work is represented in Framed Gallery Darwin and the Art Warehouse, also in Darwin. In 2009, I won the Wyndham Estate ‘plate’ prize and the NT Threatened Species Network best overall art prize.
For the Victoria Pastel Society website, I have chosen a plein air study of a Pandanus from our wetland, some Speargrass ‘waves’ from the front paddock and a landscape from the Victoria River District.

Anne Yang
I was born in the scenic township of Atherton, surrounded by the lush rolling Tableland hills, rainforests, mountains, streams and lakes. With such a backdrop, it is not surprising that I developed an appreciation of and attachment for to beauty of nature from an early age. In 1999 whilst attending a TAFE drawing course, I was introduced to pastels, and armed with enthusiasm, some inherited artistic talent and a passionate determination my artistic journey began. I love being outdoors in the natural environment and am constantly inspired and challenged to capture the beauty of nature in my paintings, and the magical qualities of sunlight. With my husband and four children, I now live near Cooroy, Sunshine Coast, Queensland.

I am a realist painter, and paint and draw in many mediums but my favourite is Pastel. I love the challenge and excitement of a life drawing session, having a nude model to draw is a test of skill against time. I use Charcoal, Pencil, & Pastel & my aim is to get on the paper a sketch that has proportion & likeness, tone & balance. Each drawing/painting should have a focal point, a ‘punch’ …it may be a darker shaded area or a delicately drawn hand. I never tire of drawing, it is quick, it makes you take a hard look at the subject, it makes you go straight to the point, & it is an essential base for all other art forms.
As a child I was most interested in all things crawling, or growing & I loved to draw. I graduated from both High school & Teachers College in S.A
In 1997 I was introduced to Pastel. I love Pastel; the pure pigment sticks are excellent for sketching /drawing & painting. I teach classes, and promote this medium where ever possible.
