Elizabeth(Betty) Sutton.
Elizabeth (Betty) Sutton, who is New Zealand born, began drawing at an early age when still at Primary School, but did not become serious about art until later in life after having married, finished work and raising two children.
11 yrs ago work commitments brought both she & her husband across the Tasman to live for 5 yrs in Sydney before moving north to Brisbane.
She works in all media but prefers pastel or oil.
She has worked under many tutors both in NZ & Australia including Irene Tuscia–Falconer, Ann Kebbell, Val Tubman, Louise Henderson, Jan Nigro, Beverley Ray, John Corby, Colina Grant, David Lake, Herman Pekel, Jeff Rigby and Nika Norman.
Being an active member of many Art Societies over the years she advocates the direction, progress, and exciting ideas, which can be gained from belonging to an art group, as well as the stimulation and the friendship from like minded artists.
She has exhibited many works and has won several awards. Her works hang in private collections both here and overseas.
Artists Statement:
I have lived near the coast and alpine mountains of New Zealand for many years, spending many years tramping, climbing and skiing so I can relate to Nature’s wildness & beauty.
I have also been fortunate to travel overseas several times and I am inspired by the scenery in other countries.
I enjoy painting the many moods of the sea and the unspoiled landscape, but like the challenge of painting other subjects.

The beauty and serenity of creation is what draws me to paint. I love the beach, the movement of the waves and the play of light on the sand. Having lived on the Sunshine Coast for almost the past decade the local coast and hinterland are common themes in my artwork..
I have always had a love of drawing and art since I was young. Pastels are my favourite medium and I am a committee member of the Pastel Society of Australia. Landscapes and Seascapes are my usual subjects but figures, florals and still life are also high on my list of things I love to paint.
I hold workshops in Beginners Pastel through Art Supplies Noosa and am a regular teacher at the Tinbeerwha Art Group. Yandina Art Classes are about to commence in the new year at the Yandina Baptist Hall. My artwork can be seen at the Yandina Historic House.
My most recent awards include:
Pastel Society of Australia Awards 2009 – Yearly Incentive Award – 1st prize
Sunshine Coast Show 2009 : Grand Champion ( with a pastel painting)
Sunshine Coast Show 2009 : Oil and Acrylic section – highly commended.

ARTISTS STATEMENT:
Although in recent times mankind has become more interested in the conservation of wildlife and its habitat, in many countries there is still only "paper protection". In many cases the population of a species has dropped so low in the wild that its extinction is inevitable without the aid of breeding colonies set up all over the world at some of the better zoos.
I believe it is important to use my talent as a wildlife artist to showcase the lives of these creatures both great and small. Encouraging and teaching the young and re-educating the old through talks, classes and workshops. The protection process is slow at best, I hope that my paintings are not the only way future generations get to recognize the diverse species we share the planet with.

John Thiesfield
I did two years of watercolour while I was at High School, but had not had a pastel in my hand since I left primary school. That was a box of Reeves 12 (which I still have !!)
Retiring early in 2005 I was introduced to pastels through the Oakey Art Group at a six day workshop at Lake Perseverance.
Have appreciated the monthly workshops of the Pastel Society of Australia and the opportunity to show my work through the Queensland Art Collective.
I receive a great deal of encouragement from Master Pastellists and other competent teachers. I am shutter happy with a camera and am only happy in painting when working from my own resources.
I am a “young “, artist in painting years who is working hard towards a second solo exhibition.

MARGARET TURNER
Margaret is a traditional artist and paints in oil and pastel.
Margaret was born and lived her childhood years in Townsville, Qld. She moved to Canberra where she lived for many years and during this time also resided in Malta, Peru and the Netherlands for several years. Margaret relocated to Brisbane in 2004 to live close to her family.
She commenced art lessons in oil landscape in January 1988 and soon became familiar with the pastel medium and its subtle qualities. The Australian landscape, flowers, still life and scenes from her sojourns overseas are her favourite subjects. She has a special connection with the South American environment and her interpretation of Peruvian tradition reflects the deep sensitivity she feels for this region. She revisited Peru in November 2005 and rekindled her affection for this culture.
Margaret has won many Awards. She has also had articles published in the Australian Artist Magazine. She is a member of the Artists Society of Canberra and the Pastel Society of Australia. Margaret is a regular exhibitor at the annual Canberra Times Outdoor Art Show and has featured as a guest artist on several occasions. She exhibits annually in solo and joint exhibitions in Canberra.
