Cherie Reynolds
I was born in Werribee, Victoria and moved to Bundaberg when I was ten. Later as a teenager I would spend weekends sketching animals in pencil and charcoal but for the last 24years I have devoted my life to my husband and my three children. About eighteen months ago, through a lot of encouragement from my mother, I discovered pastels and instantly fell in love. My mother gave me a book by Lesley Harrison on animals and away I went. Through this book I have taught myself and have enjoyed the journey each drawing I create takes me. Each drawing is done on velour board which I believe gives my animals a more lifelike texture. Although I love doing landscapes and want to try my hand at portraits, wildlife and pet portraits will remain my first true passion. I am now looking forward to learning more, creating more and fulfilling a dream I've always had. Along with my husband and two of my children, I now live in Edens Landing, Brisbane.

TUITION:
Tuition in art has been delivered by accredited artists, workshops and gleaned from numerous art books.
Being mostly a realist painter, favourite subjects come from Mother Nature; pets, native animals or landscape (especially of the Outback). Personal or authorised photographs only are used, to aid correctness of detail and colour, so paintings are all 100% original.
Pastels of all varieties, soft and hard are used on Canson, Colorfix papers, on primed board, Canvas and even on Matt board especially for smaller works and fixatives are rarely used.
I enjoy portraiture and the real likeness, spirit and character of the person is the focus, with most portraits produced with the aid of photographic images of the known subject.
GALLERIES where artworks have been exhibited:
-Maleny Art & Craft Gallery QLD.
-The Hinterland Gallery, Landsborough QLD.
-David Linton Gallery, Maleny

She has been a finalist in the Australian Artist magazine and has also been featured in the Artist Palette magazine. ARTIST STATEMENT
I find nothing more relaxing and exhilarating than to be in front of my easel with my trays of pastels sprawled out displaying their booty of colour. To perfectly reproduce an image that is burning away in my conscious, is a burning passion and obsession. My work environment presents me daily with new and exciting colours, papers, techniques, tools and most of all, the contact with other artists, which I relish.
I have found pastel has the capacity to be applied and used in the same fluid way that oil paint has been associated with for millenium, and it is my life-long ambition to raise the profile of this age old medium. I want to bring it right under the noses of judges and critics and say “What about this for pastel??”
