Maree Angus

For as long as Maree can remember she has been creating art in some way, and was encouraged in this pursuit by both of her parents from a young age. Winning prizes with her art early in life also encouraged her. Growing up on cattle properties in Central Queensland fostered a love for the rural landscape, and the people and animals that live within them. This still shows in her work today, which is in the traditional realist style.

Portraiture and figure-drawing have always been genres that Maree has been drawn to and she constantly works to hone these skills. While enjoying using the mediums of oils, watercolour, drawing and printmaking Maree loves the immediacy of pastel, and it is her most frequent choice of medium. She believes that pastel lends itself very well to portraiture because of the beautiful luminosity you are able to achieve when painting skin. The pastel medium also suits her busy lifestyle because she can leave it and come back to it whenever the need arises.

Maree has held several joint exhibitions and been involved in many group exhibitions. She is truly grateful for all the support she has received from friends and family, and believes it is the best encouragement she could ask for. The awards and acclamation she has received in recent years has been appreciated also, including several firsts and people’s choices, most recently winning the Open section at Sarina Art Extravaganza.

Catherine Bishop

Born in 1955 and raised in Paris by a French mother and Greek father, Catherine has lived and worked in Greece and France.

Her favourite place in Paris was, and still is, the famous "Place du Tertre" in Montmartre where she was born. Its unique atmosphere filled her with inspiration for her artistic endeavours when she was studying the art of IKEBANA (the Japanese Floral Arrangement) in 1991.

Catherine travelled to many different countries before settling in Australia where she underwent a complete change of lifestyle. In 1994 she decided to make Coochiemudlo Island her home.

When she first arrived in Australia, she was much involved with craft work. Her husband and an artist friend encouraged her first serious attempt at fine art.

Catherine has worked with different mediums but has an affinity with pastels. She is a member of the Coochie Art Group and also belongs to the Pastel Society of Australia. She has exhibited in various galleries, shops and exhibitions where she has sold some of her work and won awards.

Artist Statement:

For me the making of art is a direct emotional response to my experiences. I like to think of pastel painting as a dance across the page with tone and colour. The dance I perform is pure gestural expression. I marry my heart to my hand and together they speak visual music. Sometimes the beauty, colours and light play are overwhelming and I am forced to blurt the information onto the surface in quick strokes saying just enough about how I am feeling towards my subject rather than telling what my subject looks like. At other times I linger and drink in all that I perceive and gently caress the painting surface with delicate information out of pure respect and amazement. The dance on the surface is always unique, rhythmic yes, but not contrived. It has to be genuine, it has to express my inner most responses, and it has to be mine and mine alone. Though I dance alone I dance for others to enjoy so they too can palpate the emotions of the visual music.

My recent solo exhibition was entitled "Something Beautiful, Something Good" which successfully expressed my artistic focus of wanting to share with others the love of all things beautiful.

As a Master Pastelist, I readily offer my paintings for sale and am available for workshops. Classes are held weekly in Oxenford on the Gold Coast Australia.

Annabelle Dennehy

An early introduction to art by a mother who was a water colour artist and teacher led to awards as a junior artist.

Having obtained distinction in couture design and further arts diplomas, Annabelle has now begun painting full time. Using oils and experimenting in the medium of pastels the aim is to achieve a fresh, vibrant effect through texture and colour, capturing the free spirit of Australia.

These paintings reflect the experience of living in diverse parts of Australia from the outback harshness of Broken Hill to the misty High Country in Victoria and more recently the luxuriant beauty of S.E. Queensland.

The first paintings to be exhibited on the Sunshine coast were sold out immediately. Numerous sales and commissions have followed.
